Grade biology papers with AI

Recall questions, data analysis, labeled diagrams, scientific reasoning: Correxio reads your students' papers in biology and life and earth sciences, handwritten or digital, and proposes a score for each rubric criterion.

Built for biology

What changes for your biology tests

A biology paper mixes content to recall, data or documents to interpret and an argument to build. Correxio scores each of those on the points you give it, from middle school life science to high school biology.

  • ✓

    Knowledge and reasoning, scored separately

Each rubric criterion carries its own points, adjustable in quarter points. Separate recalling the content, pulling evidence from a figure and connecting the two: the AI splits the score accordingly and explains every point.

  • ✓

Diagrams seen as you see them

The AI reads each page as an image: it sees the cell diagram, the food web or the rock cross-section, with its labels and title, and can take them into account if your rubric covers them.

  • ✓

    Working with data and documents

Describe in the rubric what a good answer should draw from the figure, a value read off a graph, a comparison, a conclusion: the AI checks the student actually did it, not just that they restated the textbook.

  • ✓

    Comments right on the paper

The AI places its remarks exactly where they apply, mistakes and strong points alike, and writes two or three sentences of overall feedback. You can move, edit or delete any of them, and add your own.

  • ✓

    Your answer key as reference

Attach your answer key if you have one: the AI uses it as a reference for the expected concepts, while still scoring strictly against the rubric. A question left blank scores zero instead of borrowing credit from the rest of the paper.

In practice

A biology test graded in four steps

The same flow for a short quiz, a unit test or a semester exam.

  1. 01

    Upload the test

As a PDF, a photo or a Word file, figures included. While you import the papers, the AI drafts a rubric, question by question.

  2. 02

    Adjust the rubric

Split the points and spell out what you expect: the terms to use, the evidence to pull from each figure, the labels a diagram must have.

  3. 03

    Import the papers

PDF scans, or photos taken with your phone after scanning a QR code; a crooked photo is straightened automatically. The student's name is masked before grading.

  4. 04

    Review and export

Clicking a question scrolls the paper to where the student answered it. Adjust what needs adjusting, confirm the paper, then export the grades as CSV and the annotated papers as PDF.

Your questions about biology papers

Can the AI grade a labeled diagram?

It sees the diagram, its labels and its title, and can check that it contains what your rubric asks for: the right structures, correctly labeled. The accuracy of a drawing, its proportions or an observation sketch are better judged by eye: check those points when reviewing.

How do I grade reasoning and not just recall?

By breaking it down in the rubric. For example: “1 point for the evidence from Figure 2, 1 point for linking it to the concept, 0.5 point for the conclusion.” The more explicit the criteria, the more reliable the proposed score.

Can Correxio grade lab work?

Only the written part: written answers, data tables, diagrams on the worksheet. Hands-on lab skills and the experiment itself don't show on paper and are out of the AI's reach.

What if a student's handwriting is hard to read?

The AI reads handwriting like the rest of the page, but truly illegible writing stays illegible for the AI as it does for you. A sharp, well-framed photo gives the best results, and reviewing remains essential: nothing is exported until you confirm it.

How much does grading a biology test cost?

Usage is counted per graded page: 30 students each handing in a double sheet (4 pages) make 120 pages. The test and its figures, the answer key and the rubric are not counted. The free plan includes 30 pages a month to try it, paid plans 250 or 500.
