Grade economics papers with AI
Essays, short-answer questions, calculations, data and graph interpretation: Correxio reads your students' economics and social science papers, handwritten or digital, and proposes a score for each rubric criterion.
What changes for your economics tests
An economics paper asks for concepts used correctly, data read and calculated accurately, and an argument built on evidence. Correxio scores each of those on the points you give it, from an introductory class to AP, IB or A-level economics.
Every part of the paper, separately
Definitions, data questions, extended responses: each rubric criterion carries its own points, adjustable in quarter points. The AI splits the score along those lines and justifies every point.
Calculations and data reading
Percentage change, index numbers, elasticity, shares of a total: the AI checks the calculation and the sentence that interprets it, and spots a percentage confused with percentage points. Comments write formulas in real notation, on screen and in the PDF handed back to the student.
Reasoning, not recitation
Describe in the rubric what a strong paragraph contains, a point, a mechanism explained, evidence taken from the data provided: the AI checks that the student built an argument, not just listed definitions.
Comments on the paper
The AI places its remarks exactly where they apply, mistakes and strong passages alike, and writes a two- or three-sentence overall comment. You move, edit or delete each one, and add your own.
Anonymous papers
The student's name is hidden before the AI reads the paper, so grading is blind. You can reveal names for the whole class when you review.
An economics test graded in four steps
The same workflow for a short quiz, a data-response question or a practice exam essay.
Upload the exam
As a PDF, a photo or a Word file, data and documents included. While you import the papers, the AI drafts a rubric, question by question.
Adjust the rubric
Split the points and describe what you expect: the concepts to use, the calculations and how to read them, the mechanisms to explain, the data to draw on.
Import the papers
PDF scans, or photos taken on a phone after scanning a QR code; a crooked photo is straightened automatically. The student's name is hidden before grading.
Review and export
Click a question and the paper scrolls to where the student answered it. Adjust what needs adjusting, approve the paper, then export the scores as CSV and the annotated papers as PDF.
Your questions about economics papers
Can the AI grade an economics essay?
It proposes a score based on the criteria you write (thesis, structure, use of concepts, use of evidence), with a justification for each. On an essay, that score is a starting point for your review: nothing is exported until you approve it.
Does it check percentage change and index calculations?
Yes: it reads the student's working, checks the result and the sentence interpreting it. Say in the rubric how you split the points between the calculation and its reading, for example “0.5 point for the result, 0.5 point for a correct interpretation”.
How do I get scores close to mine?
By making your rubric explicit. “Analysis: 6 points” leaves the AI to interpret; “2 points per argument explained and supported by the data provided, up to three” tells it what you expect. The more precise the criteria, the closer the proposed scores.
What if a student's handwriting is hard to read?
The AI reads handwriting like the rest of the page, but truly illegible writing stays illegible to it, as it does to you. A sharp, well-framed photo gives the best results, and your review remains essential.
How much does grading an economics test cost?
Usage is counted per graded page: 30 students each handing in a 4-page paper make 120 pages. The exam and its data, the answer key and the rubric are not counted. The free plan includes 30 pages a month to try it, paid plans 250 or 500.
