Grade world language tests with AI
Writing tasks, reading comprehension, grammar, translation: Correxio reads your middle and high school students' tests, handwritten or digital, and proposes a score following your rubric, with feedback in English or in the target language.
What changes for your world language tests
A Spanish or French teacher grades both content and language: what the student understood, what they managed to say, and how they said it. Correxio follows the criteria you set for each of those.
Writing scored on your criteria
Task completion, range of vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, organization, expected length: describe each criterion and its points, and the AI proposes a score for each one, in quarter points, with its justification.
Feedback in the target language
Choose the grading language: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch. Annotations and the overall comment are written in that language, so your students can read their feedback in Spanish, French or German when you want them to.
Errors marked on the paper
The AI places its remarks right where the mistake is (a wrong verb ending, a false cognate, a missing agreement) and points out what the student did well too. You keep, move, edit or delete each annotation, and add your own.
Comprehension and grammar too
Reading comprehension questions, grammar or vocabulary exercises, translation: each section gets its own score following your rubric. Attach your answer key if you have one, and the AI uses it as a reference.
Blank section, zero points
A section the student left blank scores zero, instead of borrowing credit from the rest of the test. Marks left on the sheet by an earlier, separate grading are ignored.
A language test graded in four steps
The same flow for a sixth-grade vocabulary quiz or a high school writing assessment.
Upload the test
As a PDF, a photo or a Word file, texts and instructions included. While you import the papers, the AI drafts a rubric from it, section by section.
Adjust the rubric and language
Spell out what you expect for each criterion, as in your own scoring guide, and choose the language the feedback will be written in.
Import the papers
PDF scans, or photos taken with your phone after scanning a QR code; crooked photos are straightened. The student's name is masked before grading.
Review and export
Confirm or adjust each score, then export the scores as CSV and the annotated papers, with their overall comment, as PDF to hand back.
Your questions about world language tests
Which languages can the AI grade?
The AI reads the paper in whatever language the student wrote it in: Spanish, French, German, Italian… Annotations and the overall comment are written in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Dutch, as you choose; for another target language, choose English.
How do I score language and content separately?
By separating them in the rubric: for instance “task completion: 4 points”, “vocabulary: 3 points”, “grammar: 3 points”. The AI proposes a score per criterion, and the CSV export gives you the breakdown for every student.
Can the AI mistake messy handwriting for a spelling error?
That is the main risk in language classes: an ambiguous letter or a missing accent mark can read as a mistake. Poor handwriting or a blurry photo makes the reading less reliable. Check spelling remarks with the paper in front of you, which is exactly what the review screen is for.
Can it grade speaking?
No: Correxio grades written papers, scanned or photographed. A listening task can be scored if the student's answers are written on the paper; speaking is outside its scope.
How much does grading a language test cost?
Usage is counted per graded page: 30 students each handing in a single sheet written front and back make 60 pages. The test, the answer key and the rubric are not counted. The free plan includes 30 pages a month to try it, paid plans 250 or 500.
